OkieDerby is a Proficiency Air Rally, NOT an air race.
Participants are assessed on how well they perform against their own estimates for speed and fuel consumption.
One Pilot and one Observer/Copilot fly a designated course (approximately 120nm) originating and ending from KHSD.
Scores are assigned based on the relationship of estimated speed versus measured speed and estimated fuel consumption versus actual fuel consumption.
For a complete description of the event, see the most current OkieDerby Rules and Regulations available on the Register page.
The Oklahoma Chapter of Ninety-Nines welcomes you to our Annual Okie Derby Proficiency Air Rally, held annually since 1979, except for the 2020 covid year. The first Okie Derby was held at Westheimer Airport, and was an event for pilots to get together, have fun, and enjoy aviation. It has evolved to include fundraising for the Oklahoma Chapter Wings of the Future Scholarship. Since 1990, over $100,000 has been awarded to further aviation education. The Oklahoma Chapter Ninety-Nines relies on friends and supporters of aviation and education to help them achieve their goal for funding the Wings of the Future Scholarship.
The Oklahoma Chapter Ninety-Nines members thank the dedicated participants and the generosity of its supporters for the continued success of the Okie Derby Proficiency Air Rally. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
